Piracetam is arguably the first, safest, and most widely used cognitive enhancer.

Piracetam was first synthesized by Romanian chemist Corneliu E. Giurgea.  Giurgea was the first to use the word 'nootropic' to describe piracetam.

According to Giurgea, nootropics should share the following characteristics:

1.  They should enhance learning and memory.

2.  They should enhance the resistance of learned behaviors and memories to conditions which tend to disrupt them (e.g. electroconvulsive shock).

3.  They should protect the brain against various physical and chemical injuries.

4.  They should increase the efficacy of the tonic cortical/subcortical control mechanisms.

5.  They should lack the usual pharmacology of other psychotropic substances (e.g. sedation, motor stimulation), possess very few side effects and extremely low toxicity.

Piracetam appears to fulfill all of the above criteria.

Piracetam is often taken with a choline donor to accentuate neurotransmitter activity.  Choline donors often taken in conjunction with piracetam include:

Alpha GPC

CDP Choline

Choline Bitartrate

Since the original synthesis of piracetam, various analogs have been developed showing strong cognitive enhancement efficacy including:

Aniracetam - considered 8-10 times stronger than piracetam with calming effects

Fasoracetam (NS 105) - works on the cholinergic, GABA, and glutamate neurotransmitter systems in tandem and often used to enhance mood

Noopept - considered up to 1,000 times stronger than piracetam (taken at much lower doses) and one of the most popular nootropics available today

Oxiracetam - shown to increase attention, concentration, and spatial orientation

Phenylpiracetam - considered 30-60 times stronger than piracetam and used in sports enhancement

Piracetam Hydrazide - a unique and rare form of piracetam with much higher potency

Pramiracetam - particularly helpful with memory and neuroregeneration

Sunifiram - nootropic with significantly higher potency than piracetam activating the release of acetylcholine in the cerebral cortex

If you would prefer to take piracetam with a choline donor already encapsulated for you, our EPIQ Piracetam Complex is an excellent product.
